National Engineering College

National Engineering College (NEC), Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu, India is a self financing Autonomous Institution. NEC was established in the year 1984, approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, India, and the courses offered are accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi.  NEC is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. NEC offers six undergraduate degree programmes and five post-graduate degree programmes in Engineering and Technology. The institution runs under a trust formed by the Chairman Kalvi Thanthai Thiru .K. Ramasamy.

More than 10,000 engineers have graduated during the past 35 years. NEC has Research Centre Status to run Doctoral research programmes approved by Anna University, Chennai, through which more than 300 researchers have either completed or are pursuing research in diverse fields.

Location

The college is located in Tamil Nadu in one of the southern districts. It's situated close to National Highway 44 (India), the longest-running, major north–south National Highway that runs from Srinagar to Kanyakumari. Previously this part of the highway was numbered as National Highway 7 (India) which runs from Varanasi to Kanyakumari. Madurai is the closest metropolitan city, around 100 km away, while Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Trivandrum are the other major cities that are close by. The nearest railway station is in Kovilpatti. Tuticorin Airport is possibly the closest commercial domestic airport, while the Madurai Airport is the closest international airport. V.O.Chidambaranar Port or Tuticorin Port Trust is the closest major port.

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering

The Department was established in 1984. It offers courses in B.E. (Electronics and Communication Engineering) and M.E. (Embedded Systems Technologies). Dr. R. Parthasarathy, a retired professor of Indian Institute of Technology Madras or IIT, Chennai and Dr. V. Krishnamurthi, a retired professor of College of Engineering, Guindy, has worked for a short period of time during the 1980s and 1990s as Head of the department. Also, Prof. Ct .Rm. Chidambaram, a retired Professor from Annamalai University worked for a few years in the mid 1990s.
