Nawaz Sharif Kidney Hospital Swat

Nawaz Sharif Kidney Hospital [NSKH] (also called: Nawaz Sharif Kidney Hospital and Postgraduate Institute Manglawar Swat KPK) is situated in Garai Kalay Manglawar Swat. It is named after Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif (former Prime Minister of Pakistan) as he used Punjab hospital trust's funds to build it. It is 116-bed hospital, with 12 Dialysis machines and Air Conditioning which is spread over 32 kanals at cost of 600 million rupees. It is a Project of Punjab Hospitals Trust.[1][2]

The hospital has an OPD, Male and Female Wards, an Operation Theatre, a Dialysis Unit and other basic facilities.[3]

History

To assist in rebuilding of war and flood ravaged basic infrastructure of Swat, this hospital was built using funds from Punjab Hospitals trust in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is the first ever Kidney Hospital in the province. The contract was awarded to M/S Tijaarat Developers.[4][5]

Ground breaking of the project was formally performed by Mr. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Mr. Ishaq Dar, the then leader of opposition in the Senate on 28 November 2012.[6] Work was to undertaken in two phases:

Phase-1
  • Cost of Phase-1: = Rs. 247.25 Million PKR
  • Start of Work Phase-1 = 7 December 2012
  • Completion Phase-1 = 15 January 2014

Phase-2
  • Cost of Phase-2 = Rs. 154.73 Million PKR
  • Start of Work Phase-2 = 15 September 2013
  • Completion Phase-2 = due date was 15 September 2014 but still in progress

Geography

It is situated in Garay Kalay Manglawar, which is 8 km away North-East side of Mingora; the main city of District Swat. Kidney Hospital is between Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Fuel Station and Manglawar Pul (Bridge) a well-known place in Town Manglawar. It is to the left side of N-95 road. Building: Covered area 96,330 square feet. Earth quake resistant R-C-C Frame structure with reinforced brick masonry.

Main Building

Lower Ground Floor

Lower Ground Floor is having an area of (21,000 Square feet). This floor consists of the following blocks:

  • Dialysis Unit:

Dialysis machines are functional in Lower Ground floor.

  • Wards:

There are 9 bed for females and 10 bed for male patients. Also have 9 bed for Hepatitis patients. 4 rooms are private.

  • Admin:

Admin block have Admin & Finance block, conference room, ramp and elevator.

Ground Floor

Ground Floor is having an area of (37,400 Square feet). Ground floor consists of:

  • Departments:

There are five departments on Ground floor: Medical, Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, X-Ray, Pharmacy

  • Laboratories:

Laboratories consists of: C.T Scan, Ultra Sound, Blood bank

  • Wards:

9 bed female and 11 for male. And also have 4 private rooms.

First Floor

First Floor is having an area of (26,100 Square feet). First floor consists of the following blocks:

  • Operation Theater Unit:

3 Operation theaters, OT Technical Block & Staff rooms.

  • Wards:

10 bed female, 10 bed male.

  • Admin:

Admin block covers total of 84,600 Square feet area. It is having Male/Female Doctor’s Lounge, Cafeteria, Attendance and waiting rooms.

Patient facilitation center

Patient facilitation center is on first floor and second floor. It covers 4,750 and 3,290 Square feet respectively, and total area of 8040 Square feet of total area.

Main goal Patient facilitation center is to provide facilitation and feel them easy when they used to stay in hospital. It consists of:

  • Ground Floor

Ground floor is having Medical store, PCO, Shops and Attendants waiting area.

  • First Floor

Doctor Dining Halls, attendants Dining Halls and Kitchen.

Service block

The service block is 1,910 square feet.

Mosque

Mosque is situated on 1,780 Square feet of area. Mosque are religious places of a Muslim where patients and their relatives used to pray here. 100 persons.

Miscellaneous components
  1. Service block and Ambulance Garages.
  2. WAPDA Sub station
  3. Tube-well and Overhead tank (50,000 Gallons of water).
  4. External Development with 100 car parking.
  5. Boundary wall with steel concertina.
  6. Guard hut.
