Production
History and format
Rosanna Pansino, the series' creator, had been working as a professional actress prior to the creation of her YouTube channel.[1] She created her channel in 2009 as an attempt to get more comfortable in front of a camera;[2] she started the Nerdy Nummies series in 2011, where she was then given an ultimatum by her agent to choose between acting and YouTube. In an interview with Cosmopolitan in 2015, Pansino stated: " At this point, I wasn't making any money on YouTube. I knew that it was possible to do that but I wasn't making a dime. I decided, I'm going to do this. I'm not going to let YouTube go."[3]
The series consists of videos where Pansino is featured in her kitchen showing how to bake and create various treats, more typically dessert recipes such as cake, cookies and more. It was initially recorded in a single-camera setup, though later on it was later switched to a multiple-camera setup. The first episode was released on June 17, 2011, which featured Pansino baking a Super Mario themed cake.[4] She stated in an interview with Business Insider in 2014 that "the average Nerdy Nummies episode takes over 5 days to create and produce. The process includes developing ideas, gathering the ingredients, testing the recipes, filming, editing and posting the videos."[5] Since 2013, she has collaborated with American YouTuber Mike Lamond on the series.[6]
