Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is based in Carson City, Nevada's capital. The DMV was created by the Nevada Legislature on July 1, 1957. The DMV operates 16 offices across the state.[1] The agency is responsible for issuing driver licenses and vehicle registration.
From 1985 to 2001, the department was known as the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety because various public safety agencies were merged into the department in 1985, 1993, and 1995. In August 2001, the public safety agencies were split off into a new Nevada Department of Public Safety.
