New Bandon is a civil parish in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada.[2]

For governance purposes it is divided between the villages of Bertrand, Grande-Anse, Maisonnette, and Saint-Léolin, and the local service districts of Anse-Bleue, Dugas, New Bandon-Salmon Beach, Poirier and the parish of New Bandon.[lower-alpha 1] New Bandon-Salmon Beach and the parish of New Bandon are members of the Chaleur Regional Service Commission (CRSC),[4] the others of the Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commission (APRSC).[4]

Origin of name

The parish was named for Bandon, County Cork in Ireland, source of many settlers of the area.[5]

History

New Bandon was erected in 1831 from Saumarez Parish.[6]

In 1941 the boundary with Paquetville Parish and Saint-Isidore Parish was adjusted.[7]

In 1947 part of New Bandon was included in the newly erected Allardville Parish.[8]

Delineation

New Bandon Parish[lower-alpha 2] is defined in the Territorial Division Act[2] as being bounded:

North and east by Chaleur Bay and Caraquet Bay; west by Bathurst Parish; south by the south branch of the Caraquet River[lower-alpha 3] extending from its mouth, upstream to the mouth of Innishannon Brook; thence in a southwesterly, westerly and southerly direction along the bounds of the Paquetville Parish and the bounds of Saint-Isidore Parish to a point in the east limit of Bathurst Parish.
