Nicole Junkermann
Nicole Junkermann (born 27 April 1980)[1] is a German entrepreneur and investor. She was born in Düsseldorf and is the daughter of businessman Heinz Junkermann. She lives in West London.[2]
Junkermann is the founder of NJF Holdings, an international investment company with interests in venture capital, private equity, and real estate.[3]
Career
Junkermann co-founded online sports gaming platform Winamax.[4] Junkermann later joined Infront Sports and Media in 2002. She was a major shareholder and served as Vice Chairman, overseeing the company’s sale to the private equity group Bridgepoint Capital in 2011 for approximately $650 million.[5] [6]
In 2005 Junkermann invested in Shanghai Really Sports, one of China’s largest sport retail companies. Junkermann also founded her own private equity fund, United in Sports, focused on media and sports investments in Asia and Europe. The fund raised €242.2 million in 2007.[7]
Shortly after the sale of Infront, Junkermann founded NJF Holdings in 2012.[8] Through NJF Holdings’ venture capital arm, NJF Capital, the team manage an investment portfolio with investments in healthcare, fintech, and deep tech. Three of NJF’s early investments include Songza, Dollar Shave Club, and RelateIQ, which were acquired by Google, Unilever, and Salesforce respectively.[9]
On 13 June 2017, Junkermann was named co-chair of Magnum Global Ventures, alongside Thomas Dworzak. In July 2017, Junkermann invested in a newly created subsidiary, Magnum Global Ventures, to manage the assets of Magnum Photos.[10][11]
Junkermann served on the Department of Health and Social Care’s Healthtech Advisory Board, having been appointed by Matt Hancock, MP in November 2018.[12][13] The board guides the Secretary of State and government on its mission to transform technology in the National Health Service.[14] One of NJF Capital’s portfolio companies is OWKIN, a Paris-based start-up, using AI for medical research.[15] Junkermann serves as a director on OWKIN’s board.[16]
Personal life
In March 2017, Junkermann married Ferdinando Brachetti Peretti,[17] heir to an Italian oil business dynasty.[18] They have a daughter born in December 2017. Junkermann’s brother-in-law is Ugo Brachetti Peretti.[19]
Junkermann supports the work of both her mother-in-law Mila Peretti (the National Inspectress of the Italian Red Cross and the only woman in Italy to carry the military grade of General)[20] and Elsa Brachetti, an Italian jewellery designer and philanthropist known in particular for her design pieces created for Tiffany & Co.
Junkermann has been a committee member of the Tate Americas Foundation, an independent charity that supports the work of the Tate Gallery in the United Kingdom, since 2005. In 2014 she founded the JJ Collection dedicated to supporting emerging Latin American artists [20]
