Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover
The Niedersächsische Staatsorchester Hannover is a State orchestra in the Lower Saxony State capital Hanover. It is the orchestra of the Staatsoper Hannover.
History
It was founded in 1636 by George, Duke of Brunswick-Calenberg as the Staatskapelle. Since 1 January 1970, it has belonged to the Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover GmbH. It currently has 105 members (as of 2020).[1][2]
In addition to daily opera and ballet performances, eight symphony concerts as well as numerous special concerts, children's concerts, youth concerts and chamber concerts are produced each season. Soloists for the symphony concerts in the past years were, among others,Yehudi Menuhin, Pinchas Zukerman, Viktor Tretiakov, Christian Tetzlaff, Antje Weithaas and Baiba Skride.[3]
Time and again, the orchestra makes guest appearances abroad.[4][5]
