Palamedu is located at 10.12°N 78.12°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 227 metres (744 feet)
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Palamedu had a population of 8187. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Palamedu has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 54%. In Palamedu, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Jallikattu (way to find best Bull for Breed) was one of the Famous historical event held every year in the month of January, mainly on the second day of Tamil month Thai. Palamedu is among the first towns in southern Tamil Nadu to host it. The traditional Tamil adventure sport will be held in various parts of Tamil Nadu for almost a month on the sidelines of Pongal festival.[3] Tourists even from Overseas visit and spend time during the month of January, during Pongal festival. Here Palamedu Bathirakaliamman dairy farm Palgova (Milk Sweet) is very famous all over South Tamil Nadu.
Kodaikanal, Vaigai dam, Alagar Koil, Kumbakarai falls are some popular tourist spots nearby. Another recent identified water falls named 'Kutladampatti' is very near. Thekkadi, Suruli falls, Kourtallam are also near to this place and it is 150 km away from here. There is a small dam ('Sathiyar') near Palamedu. Madurai is accessible by 20 km. Alagarkovil & Alanganallur is also very near from Palamedu.

Economy
Palamedu has a moderate monsoon climate condition. People in this area are mainly cultivating 'Guava', 'Ground nut', 'Sugar Cane', 'Paddy (Rice)', etc. More number of people are engaged in producing dairy products. Milk is supplied to all over the Southern parts of Tamil Nadu.
