Patarei Prison
Patarei Prison (Estonian: Patarei vangla, also Patarei Sea Fortress-Prison, also Tallinn Central Prison (Estonian: Tallinna Keskvangla), or simply The Battery (Estonian: Patarei)) was a sea fortress and prison overlooking the harbour in Tallinn, Estonia. Nowadays, it is adapted as the Culture Park. The area of the complex is about 4 ha.[1]
The complex was built from 1828–1840. The order for the building was given by emperor Nicholas I.[1]
After World War I, in 1920 the complex's main function became a prison, lasting until 2002. Since 2007, this abandoned prison is adapted as the Culture Park.[1]
