Penny Bright

Penny Bright (1954 – 4 October 2018) was a New Zealand government transparency activist.

Biography

Bright worked as a sheet-metal welder.[1] She studied at Kuranui College.She oranized for Halt All Racist Tours.[2] She was a member of Water Pressure Group.[1] She was arrested at an Auckland City Council meeting.[3] She filed many Privacy Act requests about Auckland government spending.[4]

In 2010, 2013 and 2016, she was a candidate for Auckland mayor.[5] She was a candidate for the 2017 Mount Albert by-election.[6] Her best electoral showing was in a 2000 by-election for the Avondale/Roskill Ward of the Auckland City Council where she finished a close second with 31.61% of the vote, beating the City Vision candidate into third place.[7]

She died of ovarian cancer in 2018.[1]
