Peter Fjellstedt

Peter Fjellstedt (1802–1881) was a Swedish missionary. He was born in Värmland, Sweden in 1802. He trained for Christian ministry at Lund University and was ordained in 1828. Fjellstedt then undertook further missionary training with Basel Mission. In 1832, he was sent to Palayamkottai in Tamil Nadu, India, for his first missionary assignment. After three years, he returned home due to poor health. He went on a further assignment to Turkey and Malta, but left the mission field again in 1840.[1]

From 1843, Fjellstedt was based in Sweden, where he was involved in teaching, writing and training. In 1845, he contributed to the establishment of the Lund Missionary Society, and he later founded a mission training school in Uppsala, which was renamed the Fjellstedtka School in 1862. He also wrote devotional books and Bible commentaries. Fjellstedt was awarded an honorary doctorate of theology by the University of Halle in 1853. He died in Uppsala in 1881.[1]
