Shortly afterwards, Kavanagh contested the Dáil Éireann by-election in Dublin Mid-West,[5] where he took 6.4% of the first preference votes but was not elected.
Kavanagh was the Green Party candidate for Dublin Mid-West at the 2020 Irish general election, but was not elected.
Kavanagh quit the Green Party in January 2021, citing the party's "culture of tolerating personal abuse".[6]
