Peter Sie

Peter Sie (born Sie Tiam le; 28 December 1929, Bogor, West Java 1 April 2011, Jakarta) was an Indonesian fashion designer.[1]

Sie learned to sew when he was five years old, and he decided he wanted to be a dressmaker when he was 15 years old. Two years later, his brother-in-law brought him to the Netherlands, where he studied at the Vakschool Voor Kleermaker & Coupeuse in The Hague and learned how to become a tailor from 1947 to 1953. Upon returning to Jakarta in 1954, he started his career as a dressmaker and his reputation began to spread beyond his neighborhood as he introduced the latest fashions from the West. [2] He once held a fashion show at the Imperial House in the Sukarno era. Sie is considered the best Haute Couture designer during his time in Indonesia.

Sie's clientele included the government and the Sukarno family.

Family

Peter Sie had 7 older siblings. He was the son of Sie Tjeng Hay, who was an owner of a food company in Bogor.
