Photo conductive polymers
Photoconductive polymers conduct electricity only in the presence of light. They are insulators or partially conductive in darkness.[1] Poly(9-Vinylcarbazole) is an example.[2] An ideal photoconductive polymer exhibits the ability to sustain a high electric field, efficiently generate charge carriers, and efficiently transport said charge carriers across the polymer.[3]
Applications
Photoconductive polymers are widely used in imaging equipment such as copy machines and laser printers (also see xerography).[3]
