A police pickup truck may be used for many different purposes.[2] Four-wheel drive versions may be used for patrolling off-road areas such as mountains, forests, flooded areas, shorelines and beaches, where a police car has difficulty maneuvering. They can be used for transporting SWAT teams and often have facilities to securely detain and transport a small number of suspects. Sometimes, police agencies use trucks equipped with cages for animal control.[3]

Articulated police truck

Articulated police trucks are mainly used to transport police helicopters or armored personnel carriers, and are also used for bomb disposal. One such example is Big Bertha, which was used by the NYPD Bomb Squad.
