The album was recorded in November 2009 in Long Wave Studios, with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Kids in Glass Houses, The Blackout, Funeral for a Friend). It is the first release with Harry Radford and Kevin Miles as vocalists, replacing the band's original vocalist Michael Rice.
The first single from the album, "Get Loose!" was released on 3 February 2010, along with an accompanying music video. The second single, "Friends In High Places", was released on 24 June 2010 and the third single, "Stand Up", was released on 14 February 2011, along with an acoustic version of "Black Summer" as the b-side, although the music video premiered on the band's YouTube page already on 15 January 2011. On 5 March 2012 the band released "Put Your Hands Where I Can See Them: Revolution" which included 'Intro (dubstep remix)' 'My Hyde' 'Dirty Slut' and 'The First Rule of Fight Club' as bonus-tracks, which were all remakes of Michael's tracks from Miles Away But Getting Closer (except the dubstep remix).
