As the route is yet to be fully electrified, it is hauled by an Asansol Electric Loco Shed based WAG-5 or Howrah Electric Loco Shed based WAP-4 from Ranchi up to Durgapur handing over to an Andal Electric Loco Shed based WDM3A locomotive for the remainder of the journey until Kamakhya.
