Shailendra Singh (entrepreneur)

Shailendra Singh is an Indian entrepreneur, film producer and author.[2][3] He has produced 72 films, including Makdee (2002), Phir Milenge (2004), Page 3 (2005) and Dhol (2007).[4]

He served as MD of Percept Group, a media and entertainment company.[5] In March 2017, Singh resigned from Percept and still owns 50% share in the company.[6]

He won the Best Feature Film award for Tamil film Kanchivaram at 55th National Film Awards in 2009.[7]

Early life

He hails from Uttar Pradesh and holds a B.Com degree.[8]

Career

Singh served as the joint MD of Percept Group and was associated with the company since shortly after Percept was founded in 1984 by his brother Harindra Singh.[5] In 2007, Shailendra Singh launched two music festivals – Sunburn Festival, an electronic dance music festival, and Metalfest, a metal music festival.[5]

In 2013, he authored a book, F?@K Knows, published by Rupa Publications.[9] It was ranked #1st in Hindustan Times' Nielsen top 10 lists of the Best non-fiction books chart and ranked at the #1 spot on the Crossword Bookstores top ten list.[10] His second book, True Story of Sunburn was published in November 2014.[8] Singh released his third book, F?@K Knows: Dead or Alive, a sequel to F?@k knows published by Rupa Publications in 2018.[9]

Shailendra launched Guestlist4Good, an entertainment-for good social enterprise in January 2017.[11][12]

Awards & recognition

  • He was inducted to the Hall of Fame by the Golden Cursor Animation Award in 2008 for his contribution to the animation sector.[13]
  • He received Dynamic Entrepreneur of the Year award by Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) at the India Leadership Conclave in April 2011.[14]
  • He received the Best Feature Film award for Tamil film Kanchivaram at 55th National Film Awards in 2009. The award was presented by the President of India, Pratibha Patil.[7]
  • In 2006, Singh was awarded 24 FPS 2006 Power Personality of the Year by 24 FPS Animation Awards.[15]
  • In October 2015, Shailendra Singh was the face of Stardust, Starmaker, which talks about his successful journey in the entertainment industry.[16][17]
