History

The station opened in October 1850 by the Shrewsbury and Birmingham Railway. The station was situated to the west of Stafford Road at Stafford Road Junction. The station was served by six trains in both directions between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury. On Sunday there were two trains in each direction. When a permanent station opened at Wolverhampton on 24 October 1852, it was a short distance from Stafford Road station and it proved to be unprofitable so it closed completely in July 1852.[1]
