Playing career
Stan was a linebacker for Mount Union College from 1998-2002. During his time there he was a part of four national championships (1998, 2000, 2001, 2002). Watson was elected a team caption for his senior season in 2002. He concluded his career there as a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference first team selection. He was an All-American selection his senior year.
Coaching career
Watson began his coaching career the year he graduated from college at his alma mater, Mount Union College, as the defensive line coach. From there he progressed to Emory & Henry College as the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach for the 2005 - 2006 seasons. In 2007 he served as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at E&H. In 2008 he moved to Bowling Green State University as the defensive graduate assistant working in the secondary. In 2009 Watson was retained under new head coach Dave Clawson and promoted to cornerbacks coach. Stan remained at Bowling Green for the 2009 - 2010 seasons as the teams outside linebacker coach.[1] From there Watson was hired at the University of Toledo by then head coach Matt Campbell to be the teams special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach and remained in that role for the 2012 and 2013 football seasons.[2][3] From there Watson had the opportunity to join the Cleveland Browns coaching staff under then head coach Mike Pettine as the special teams intern assistant coach for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.[4] He was retained by new head coach Hue Jackson and promoted to special teams quality control coach.[5][6]
Personal life
Stan Watson was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. He is the son of teachers and is a 1998 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.[7] Stan attended Mount Union College from 1998 - 2002.[8] Stan's brother Ross, who also attended Mount Union College, is the secondary coach at The University of Toledo.[9]
