Man to Man is a subset of GURPS, that is just the combat rules, as used in fantasy milieus. The basic rules are simple and flexible; the advanced rules are detailed and complex. The pack includes an introductory scenario.[1] It shared some elements with Steve Jackson's previous role-paying game, The Fantasy Trip, as they both centered on tactical combat played out on a hex grid, both used a point-based character creation system, and both used only six sided dice.[2]:105
Publication history
Man to Man: Fantasy Combat from GURPS was written by Steve Jackson, and published as an 80-page book with cardstock miniatures by Steve Jackson Games in 1985.[1]
As the GURPS system was still being developed at the time, SJG initially released the combat system, rather than the entire game, in order to meet the deadline for Origins 1985; the result was Man to Man: Fantasy Combat from GURPS.[2]:105 Man to Man was soon followed by a single supplement, Orcslayer (1985).[2]:105 The original GURPS Basic Set (1986) included the combat rules of Man to Man.[2]:107
Reception
Man to Man was reviewed in Different Worlds #43.
