Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral, Basankusu

The Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral [1] (French: Cathédrale Saints-Pierre-et-Paul )[2] also called Basankusu Cathedral is a religious building affiliated to the Catholic Church located in the town of Basankusu[3] in the province of Équateur in the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The original building was built between 1939 and 1942 by the St. Joseph's Missionary Society (Mill Hill Missionaries). In 2012, work began on its rebuilding. The inauguration of the new building took place on 23 October 2018.

The diocese follows the Roman or Latin rite and the cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Basankusu (Dioecesis Basankusuensis) which was created as an apostolic prefecture in 1926 when the country was part of the Belgian Congo and was elevated to its present status in 1959 through the bull "Cum parvulum" of Pope John XXIII.

It is under the pastoral responsibility of Bishop Joseph Mokobe Ndjoku.[4]
