Syed Mohammad Ali
Syed Mohammad Ali (9 December 1928 – 17 October 1993)[1] was a Bangladeshi journalist, the founder and editor of the newspaper The Daily Star.[2] He was awarded Independence Day Award in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh.[3]

Early life
Ali was born to Syed Mostafa Ali, an official of the Assam Civil Service. Ali was a nephew of litterateur Syed Mujtaba Ali and Syed Murtaza Ali.[2][4]
Career
Ali had a 44-year-long journalist career.[2] He started his career as a reporter with the Pakistan Observer.[5]
Ali was the chairman of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).[2] He launched The Daily Star in 1991.[2]
