In the 2019 District Council election, nine people from the group ran and seven were elected, but the group's founder, Eddie Chu, lost. The team was asked by the Returning Officer for its position on "democratic self-determination" when applying for permission to run,[1] and was determined to be eligible based on the answer.[2]
On 30 July 2020, the government stated that group member Lester Shum was among a dozen pro-democracy candidates whose nominations were invalid.[3] Shum's disqualification was determined by a process which assesses whether candidates object to the enactment of national security laws or are willing to disavow separatism.[4][5]
The group supports the five demands and the implementation of universal suffrage for Legislative Council elections and for the election of the Chief Executive. The team currently has one Legislative Council seat and eight District Council seats.
