The Fosters (season 5)

The fifth and final season of The Fosters premiered on July 11, 2017.[1][2][3] The season consisted of 22 episodes[4] and stars Teri Polo and Sherri Saum as Stef Foster and Lena Adams, an interracial lesbian couple, who have adopted a girl (Maia Mitchell) and her younger brother (Hayden Byerly) while also trying to juggle raising Latino twin teenagers (Cierra Ramirez and Noah Centineo) and Stef's biological son (David Lambert). Danny Nucci also returns as Mike Foster in a recurring role.

Still in the motel room, Diamond uses another girl's phone to text Stef where they are. After chasing the wrong criminal, Stef finally gets Diamond's message and heads to the motel. Russel gets shot as Callie and Diamond run out of the motel room to see Stef in the parking lot. Stef informs Callie that Troy Johnson confessed to murdering his grandmother, meaning Callie's hit-and-run case will be tossed out, so Callie must be more conscious of her decisions and value her life. Struggling with his TBI, Jesus unleashes his anger, taking a baseball bat to Brandon's room, after discovering that he helped Emma get an abortion. Gabe and Ana admit to being clueless about the dynamics of their relationships with Jesus and Marianna, but Gabe decides to stay in town regardless. Ana and Marianna go to therapy and get closure. With Mariana leading the charge, protests continue over Anchor Beach Charter's privatization. When school security comes to break up the protest, Jude gets pepper sprayed. Since Monte never officially resigned as principal, there's a good chance in fighting against the privatization.

Lena fires paraprofessional David and takes his place. She goes to visit Nick, who claims to have something that will help with the privatization. What he gives Lena is his father's blueprint plans for the Anchor Beach property: he plans to tear down the school and turn it into beach-front housing. Lena shows the evidence to the board, and they vote against privatization. Drew asserts his power as principal by announcing that he will be offering merit-based bonuses for teachers. Timothy tells Lena that all the teachers want her to become principal, leading Lena to go into the board meeting and demand that Drew be fired or else she will leave, along with most of the teachers. Stef is still dealing with anxiety from her birthday party. Callie and her friends are trying to get enough pressure put on immigration so that Ximena can get a special hearing so that she can leave the church without fear of deportation, despite her DACA status still being in question. They go support Ximena in a big way at Shiloh's conservative anti-immigration rally and get a lot of buzz for Ximena's plight, leading to Ximena kissing Callie. Noah gets mad at Jude for flirting with Declan on their video game stream. Marianna tells Mat, Wyatt, and Logan that she has not decided between them, but that she intends on dating all of them.

Ximena can finally leave the church due to a judge granting her a stay of deportation, but she needs the footage of her speech at the rally to help her chance in court. She needs to prove that she made no threats against the government. Luckily, the Conservative Student Union at UCSD has the footage, but unluckily they will not hand it over. However, Callie finds a way around them by realizing that the video technically belongs to UCSD, and they give her the footage. Ximena's DACA status is still pending, but she can live without fear of being deported. She will be staying with the Fosters. Brandon and Grace plan the ultimate senior prank, turning the hallways of Anchor Beach into a beach, which ends up going a little too far. The prank leads to Lena embracing her fun side as the new principal. Grace meets Talya, and prepares for her T-cell injection. Stef gets the flu from Jude, leading her to miss an awkward dinner with Jenna and Tess. Lena goes in her place, and witnesses flirting between Tess and Jenna. Mariana and Mat make a huge decision about the future of their relationship; Marianna dumps Mat. After talking to Wyatt, Marianna is inspired to keep moving forward, and leave Mat in the past.
