The State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Respublikası Dini Qurumlarla İş üzrə Dövlət Komitəsi) is a central executive body which ensures implementation of the state policy in the field of religion, compliance with the provisions of the legislation, coordination of activities of relevant executive bodies concerning religious associations in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The establishment of the State Committee took place on June 21, 2001.[3]

Duties

Main duties of the Committee are the following:

  • Create appropriate conditions for the exercise of freedom of faith and religion
  • State registration of religious associations
  • Make changes and additions to the regulations (statutes) of religious associations
  • Provide necessary assistance to religious associations in reaching agreements with state bodies
  • Assist in strengthening mutual understanding, tolerance and respect relationship among religious associations of different faiths
  • The prevention of religious conflicts, discrimination and other negative manifestations
