Life and career

Morton was born on May 5, 1984 in Louisville, Kentucky and raised until he moved to Memphis, Tennessee for college where he met collaborators such as Morgan Jon Fox and Kentucker Audley. He appeared in their movies Away (A)Wake in 2005 and Team Picture in 2007. He also starred in the short Family Tree with Greta Gerwig and Lena Dunham. When he came back to Louisville, he founded the studio Jimothy with Jimmy Kustes. He put out his directorial debut Scattered Junk in 2011, which featured David Maloney and Greg Cushing. After a brief appearance in Passenger Pigeons, the debut feature film of Martha Stephens, she decided to write his first lead role for Pilgrim Song which shot in his home state of Kentucky and opened at the 2012 South By Southwest Film Festival. This would be the beginning of many of the movies he shot in Kentucky including Pleased to Meet Me and As It Is in Heaven. Zachary Treitz and Kate Lyn Sheil then wrote Men Go To Battle with him and David Maloney playing brothers during the Civil War. It won Best New Director at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.
