Transforming Teacher Education and Learning

Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) is a Government of Ghana programme funded by DFID.[1] T-TEL is a six year programme which aims at ensuring Ghana's teaching graduates are equipped to deliver high-quality, inspirational teaching and learning in schools.[1]

The national programme office is located at East Legon, Accra.

History

The programme started in November 2014 to support the then 38 public colleges of education to improve teacher education. Former Vice President of Ghana Paa Kwesi Amissah - Arthur launched the programme in December 2015.[2] In December, 2018 the programme was extended for a further two years to support the transition period of the four-year Bachelors of Education (B.Ed.) degree, which replaced the Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) in October 2018.[3][4]

Activities

The programme was designed to address poor learning outcomes by improving tutoring in colleges of education so that newly qualified teachers move away from rote learning and become better prepared to use interactive methods and their subject knowledge in the classroom.[5]
