VF-15
Fighter Squadron 15 or VF-15 was an aviation unit of the United States Navy. Originally established on 1 September 1943, it was disestablished on 20 October 1945.[1]

Operational history

VF-16 F6F-3 launches from the hangar deck catapult of USS Hornet in February 1944
On 20 June 1944 while deployed on the USS Essex, the squadron participated in the Marianas Turkey Shoot and Air Group 15 (AG-15) commander Cpt David McCampbell shot down 9 Japanese aircraft.[2]
