Virginias
The Virginias (sometimes also known as the two Virginias) is a region in the United States comprising the states of Virginia and West Virginia.[2] If they were a single state (as they were until the Civil War),[3] the Virginias would have a combined population of 9,854,018 as of the 2010 national census.[4] This would give Virginia the 9th largest population of any US state, with less than 20,000 less than number 8, Michigan. The total area of the two states is about 175,000 square kilometers (67,000 square miles).[5]
