Early life
Yatinder Singh was born on 25 December 1982 and raised in a Gurjar family in Saharanpur, UP.[2] From an early age, Yatinder believed his physical state of being under-weight as a conundrum. [3]During his high school and college life, he took up bodybuilding seriously and was guided by his coach towards the necessary physical training with the combination of indoor and outdoor training sessions. These sessions marked the beginning of Yatinder's bodybuilding career. Despite being an under-weight, Yatinder took this courageous decision.
Career
Bodybuilding career
The year 2001 marked the beginning of Yatinder's Bodybuilding career.[4] After Winning his first Championship in 2002, he was inspired to pursue Bodybuilding professionally, to take part in several bodybuilding and fitness competitions taking place within India and later Internationally.[5] [3]
Major injury
Yatinder had started preparing for Mr. Asia 2005 on president's insistence. However, Yatinder soon started overworking himself.[6] One evening while working out he got seriously injured due to the negligence of a helping boy. Yatinder's lower back vertebrae (bones in the spine) had ruptured and this had caused nerve injuries. The broken discs and the associated nerve injury had paralyzed his right hand and leg by about 30 percent. As a result of this injury, he was bedridden for months.[7]
Recovery and career as gym trainer and owner
Owing to this incident Yatinder had to stay away from bodybuilding for the next three years.[8] However, he still could not work out as he had a weakened spine. To become financially independent, he soon started working as a personal trainer in a gym in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. In 2008, he moved to Gurgaon to grow financially and professionally in the career and took his first step to become an entrepreneur.[9]
Second chance in bodybuilding
By 2008, Yatinder's back had recovered substantially and he decided to give bodybuilding another shot.[10] He started researching and studying techniques that could help him to work out without straining himself.[11] He completed ACE and ACSM training courses and using the knowledge of the human body and muscles he started working out again. In 2010, Yatinder made his way to the stage again. In this year, he won at least 6 to 7 championships like Mr. UP Overall title, Mr. North India, Senior Mr. India title in 75 kg category. He was also the first runner-up in the overall Sr. Mr. India. In 2010, he bagged the title of the Best Improved Bodybuilder and this was no less than a miracle for Yatinder.[12]
He went on to win many more National as well as International titles.[13][14][15]
