- May 10 - Roadshow Home Video releases its first titles in Australia.
June
- June 12 - Sweden makes it forbidden to rent out video cassettes with violent movies to children who are forbidden by the rating system to see such movies.[2] 20th Century Fox and CBS merge their home video operations to become CBS/Fox Video.
October
- October 30 - Columbia Pictures and RCA merge their home video operations to become RCA/Columbia Pictures Home Video.
