2021 Punjab, India local elections
Municipal elections are scheduled to be held in the Indian state of Punjab on 14 February 2021, result will be declared on 17 February. The elections are scheduled for 118 urban local bodies, including 8 municipal corporations and 109 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Elections were originally scheduled to be held in October 2020, but were delayed because of pandemic.[1]

Background
The previous elections were held in February 2015, in which, Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party lead in the most of the councils.[2] The elections are first elections since Akali Dal left the National Democratic Alliance over farm laws protest; both Akali Dal and BJP are contesting alone.[3] Bhagwant Maan, the state president of Aam Aadmi Party said the party will contest elections on its party symbol (broom).[4] Jarnail Nangal of Lok Insaaf Party demanded to postpone the elections citing large number of farmers and peasants from state are present in farmers' protest in Delhi.[5]
Elections
On 16 January 2021, Punjab's state election commission announced the schedule for elections. Nominations were filed till 3 February, elections on 14 February and result on 17 February.[6][7] Total 15,305 candidates filed nominations for elections, including 2128 of Indian National Congress, over 2000 of Shiromani Akali Dal, 1697 of Aam Aadmi Party, 1154 of Bharatiya Janata Party, and 10,193 independents.[8][9]
