History
The station originally called "ABC Northern Rivers", began as 2NR in 1936, and was heard on these main AM and FM frequencies:
- 2NR 738 AM (Grafton and Clarence Valley)
- 2ML 720 AM (Tweed Valley)
- 2NNR 94.5 FM (Richmond and the Tweed)
The station opened at a small function at the Saraton Theatre in Grafton on the evening of July 17. The Daily Examiner soon published a statement from the Postmaster-General, stating that the station was used so that rural areas could have better access to some form of media:
"In 1929 the Postmaster-General's Department devised a plan of national broadcasting, having its object the provision of fading free broadcasting service to at least 95 percent of the population of the Commonwealth and a reasonably good service to the remainder of the people in the remote areas."
Originally, the studios were located in Grafton, before moving to studios in Lismore in 1989.
