Education and Career
Dhar obtained his PhD in 1999 from the Department of Theoretical Physics at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. His doctoral advisor was Deepak Dhar. He did post-doctoral research at Indian Institute of Science, Raman Research Institute and University of California, Santa Cruz. Dhar then became a faculty member of Raman Research Institute following which he joined the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences.[2]
Research
Dhar works on the theory and applications of statistical physics to study non-equilibrium problems. One of his research areas is transport phenomena. Particularly, stochastic processes such as heat transport in classical low dimensional macroscopic systems and quantum transport. Dhar also studies active matter models, particularly through theoretical investigations of active particles.[1][2]
Awards
For his results in classical and quantum transport in low dimensional systems and contributions to non-equilibrium fluctuation theorems, Dhar was awarded the ICTP prize in 2008[3] and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award for Physical Sciences in 2009.[4] He became a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences in 2012.[5] Dhar was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2018.[6]
