Act Like You Know had a softer, more R&B-like sound than her more hardcore albums, Lyte as a Rock and Eyes on This, and reviews were generally mixed. The album peaked at No. 102 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and No. 14 on the Top R&B Albums chart. Two singles made it high on the Hot Rap Singles chart with "When In Love" peaking at No. 3 and "Poor Georgie" reaching No. 1. "Poor Georgie" also cracked the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 83.
