History

The team was founded in 1947 under the name Sokol Prievizda. In 1989 the club won their first ever title in the Czechoslovak Championship. This success repeated four years later (1993), when Prievidza won the last edition of the Czechoslovak league. In a separate Slovak top division club won his first title and third overall title in the season 1993/1994. After relegation to the second highest league in 2004, the club changed after 40 years, the name of the Hornonitriansky basketball club (HBK) Prievidza. From 1 August 2009 the club is called BC Prievidza. In the 2011–12 and in the 2015–16 season, Prievidza won the Slovak championship.

European competitions

Prievidza saw its first action in Europe, in the 1989–90 season, when it competed at the FIBA European Champions Cup.[2] Prievidza won in the first round against Täby Basket, but was defeated by FC Barcelona in the Round of 16.[3]
