Builder details

Class 2300 locos are manufactured by Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW), Canada.[5] These 24 locos came to Bangladesh in a single phase.

Technical details

They are 1,400 hp locos. Their model is DL535A/RSD-30. Their wheel arrangement is Co-Co. The prime mover is 6-cylinder ALCO 251B-6.[6] They have much similar specifications to Class 2400 and Class 2800 locos.

Classification and numbering

The class name or specification for class 2300 locos is "MEM-14". Here, M = Meter-gauge, E = Diesel-electric, M = MLW and 14 = 14 * 100 = 1400 hp. They are numbered from 2301 to 2324.[7]

Usage

Class 2300 locos are used in both passenger and freight trains, mainly in passenger trains. Among the passenger trains, these locos are usually used in local and mail/express trains. Some inter-city trains like Karatoya Express are hauled by these locos.
