Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma

Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma (Kannada: ಭಾಗ್ಯದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ಬಾರಮ್ಮ; English: Come, goddess of luck) is a 1986 Kannada comedy film. The title of the film was borrowed from a devaranama written by 15-16 th century Haridasa Sri Purandara Dasaru. This film was written and directed Singeetham Srinivasa Rao who also composed and scored the film's soundtrack. The film features Dr. Rajkumar, Madhavi and K. S. Ashwath in the pivotal roles.[1]

The film, produced by Parvathamma Rajkumar under Dakshayini Combines, was received exceptionally well at the box office and was one of the biggest hits of 1986. The movie saw a theatrical run of 26 weeks.[2] The dialogues and lyrics were penned by Chi. Udaya Shankar. The movie was reported to have an overwhelming response from the Kannada circuit.[3] The movie was remade in Telugu in 1988 as Maharajasri Mayagadu starring Krishna and Sridevi with changes suiting the nativity.[4]

Plot

Panduranga (Rajkumar) and Parvathi (Madhavi) hail from middle-class families with the sole intention of earning money, Panduranga wants money to make his sisters lead a happy life and also wants to escape from his uncle Tarle Tammayya (Balakrishna) who forces him to marry his daughter. After failed attempts, Panduranga and Parvathi decided to pose as married couple for a competition conducted by Ananda Enterprises and also brings a missing baby along with them. All the couples are under the eye of the competition judges, Panduranga and Parvati forced to play as couple to make them believe and also to avoid Tammayya's trouble, Panduranga creates a situation that Tammayya is a mentally ill guy. When Parvati's grandfather (K. S. Aswath) whom Parvati hates because of his arrogance comes to know about this and decides to choose them as couple, however his other granddaughter is not interested she later relents after she comes to know that it was Panduranga who saved her life once. After a funny chase towards the end, Panduranga and Parvathi gets selected as best couple.

Soundtrack

The music was composed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao who debuted as a music director with this movie. The lyrics were by Chi. Udaya Shankar.[5] Udayashankar had casually written the song Yaava Kaviyu Bareyalara meant as a Bhaavageethe and not specifically for any movie. However, once Singeetam saw the poem, he insisted on using the same for this movie.
