Bissan Al-Lazikani

Bissan Al-Lazikani is a data scientist. She is head of data science at the Institute of Cancer Research and current head of the Knowledge Hub Big Data Team.[1] Al-Lazikani is known for her work using Big Data in cancer research.

Education

She studied as an undergraduate at UCL in molecular biology. Her M.Sc in Computer Science is from Imperial College and she has a PhD in Computational Biology from Cambridge University,[2][3] where she was supervised by Cyrus Chothia. She also has a pilot's licence.[4]

Career

Bissan worked on developing Knowledgedatabase canSAR, a free, online database that combines information from different biosciences and clinical annotations to produce predictions for cancer drug development.[5] This database was also used for coronavirus research.[6]

Her published works have specialised in drug discovery, genomics, small molecule drug discovery and new drug discovery.[7] As of September 2020 she is associated with 107 papers.[7] She has also worked in the commercial sector.

She was a speaker at the 19th European Conference on Computational Biology.[8]
