Cole Williams (musician)

Cole Williams is an American musician, storyteller, and model living in New Orleans.[1] Her music has been described as a mix of rock, funk, Jamaican soul, gospel, and jazz. She hosts the WWOZ New Orleans Music Show every Tuesday.[2]

Career

Originally from Brooklyn, Williams moved to New Orleans in 2015.[2] Upon moving to New Orleans in 2015 Cole Williams launched her CANDIbyCole jewelry line.[3] Her formative years were spent attending Brooklyn Technical High School whose notable alumni feature Mos Def and Talib Kweli.[1] Williams fronts the Cole Williams Band, who since 2007 have opened for India Arie, Lauryn Hill, and others.[4] In 2016, Cole Williams Band released the Sin City The Mix Tape album.[4] That year also saw Cole perform at the heralded New Orleans Jazz Fest.[5] In 2015 Cole Williams collaborated with DJ and producer Cassady on the track "Stand Tall." [6] She has also performed as a backup singer for Aloe Blacc, Chiddy Bang, Lisa Lisa, and others.[6] In 2017 Cole Williams Band released a cover of the Sam Cooke song A Change Is Gonna Come[4] and a new original song called "Free."[1] 2017 also saw Williams partner with New Orleans Jazz Museum for a series of seminars on storytelling and music.[2] Cole Williams was nominated for the Best Female Vocalist of 2017 award by local New Orleans alt-weekly Off Beat Magazine.[7]
