The district was established in 1998, when what was formerly the at-large elected two member Cook County Board of Appeals was reconstituted as the three-member Cook County Board of Review, elected by districts.[1][2]

Geography

The district's current boundaries, redistricted in 2012 after the 2010 United States Census, have the district covering most of Chicago's North Side, a portion of downtown Chicago, a portion of South Side, as well a segment of the northern and northeastern suburbs.[3][4] In its previous redistricting, following the 2000 United States Census, it occupied a very similar geography.[5]

Politics

The district has been represented by Democrats for its entire existence. However, the district has only once had its elections contested by other political parties.
