Dhiya Ur-Rahman Azmi

Dhiya Ur-Rahman Azmi (also written as Ziaur Rahman Azmi ) was a Muslim author, scholar, and professor and who served as Dean of Department of Hadith at Islamic University of Madinah.

Early life

Azmi was born into a Brahmin family and was named Banke Lal in Bilarya Ganj a village near Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He was introduced to Islam by Hakeem Ayub. At age 16, he converted to Islam. Following his conversion, his life was in danger.

He migrated from his hometown to Jamia Darussalam, Oomerabad where he studied Quran and Hadith for about 5 years and earned his degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies.[2] He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Islamic University of Madinah. He completed his Master's from King Abdul Aziz University at Mecca and he obtained his PhD from al-Azhar University.[3]

He was appointed professor at the Islamic University of Madinah. He was awarded Saudi Arabian citizenship. He held various positions at the University. He was the Dean of Hadith section at the University when he died on 30 July 2020.[4]

Books

Azmi authored over 20 books including his autobiography. His best-known book Al-Jamiul Kamil Fee Al-Hadith As-Sahih Al-Shamil is a collection of all authentic ahadith. He also wrote Quran Encyclopaedia and From Ganga to Zamzam.[5]

Students

His students include Zakir Naik and Abu Ammaar Yasir Qadhi.
