Gradually Going Tornado
Gradually Going Tornado is the third solo album by drummer Bill Bruford and second and final album by his group Bruford. It was co-produced by Weather Report collaborator Ron Malo. The music on the album features a heavier progressive rock oriented sound, with more of Bruford's lyrics included than on the two previous albums, here sung by bassist Jeff Berlin. The album's closing track ("Land's End") includes music keyboardist Dave Stewart previously composed for the National Health album Of Queues and Cures (1978). Guitarist John Clark was recommended by Allan Holdsworth as his replacement in the band after giving Clark several guitar lessons. Clark was listed on the album sleeve as "the unknown John Clark" as part of a running joke related to his relative obscurity in relation to his famous predecessor.

The title of the album was taken from the British-based Romanian artist Paul Neagu who did a performance under "Gradually Going Tornado" in London in 1974 (while Bruford was touring in King Crimson). Neagu created the album's cover art.
