On October 25, 2018, RTVE decided to renew the series for a second and a final season of 8 chapters, despite the fact that its audience ratings were not brilliant.[3][4] This season had the notorious loss of Cecilia Freire as the main character, and the actress Melina Matthews filled her gap playing a new teacher at the academy.
Plot
Set in an academy for young ladies in Seville in the 1920s, it shows a teaching center clinging to an unwavering way of doing things and conditioned by the traditions of the city and those years. All this universe and its pillars wobble with the arrival of a new teacher who has a very different way of seeing things and who has a secret objective directly related to the academy. The search for the own voice of a group of adult and young women will be the destiny of the protagonists.
Topics covered
Each chapter of both seasons deals with problems and themes that occurred at that time of the series but which, unfortunately, are still nowadays in our society.
Thanks to the experiences and the stories of our protagonists, the series educates and shares knowledge. We can learn the history of Elena Maseras and about teaching in the female sector, to learn about the role of women and sport over the years, the importance of mutual support among women to understand feminism as a collective movement, the need of all women to tell their stories so that no one else can tell them for them, discover feminist artworks such as "El pelele" by Francisco de Goya, recognize that sexuality goes beyond male pleasure, self-knowledge of the female sexual organ, to value self-love, mental health, racism ... among many others.
La otra mirada could be perfectly used as an audiovisual work to teach in the schools and universities classes today.
