List of tallest buildings in the United Kingdom

As of January 2021 there are 112 habitable buildings (used for living and working in, as opposed to masts and religious use) in the United Kingdom at least 100 metres (330 ft) tall,[1] 89 of them in London, 11 in Manchester, 4 in Birmingham, 2 each in Salford and Leeds and 1 each in Brighton and Hove, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Swansea (the only such structure outside England).

The Shard is the tallest building in the UK

The Shard in Southwark, London, is currently the tallest completed building in both the UK and was the tallest in the European Union until the UK’s departure; it was topped out at a height of 310 metres (1,020 ft) in March 2012, inaugurated in July 2012 and opened to the public in February 2013.

The UK had not been noted historically for its abundance of skyscrapers, with the taller structures throughout the country tending to be cathedrals, church spires and industrial chimneys. Despite this, since the late 20th century the number of high-rise apartment buildings and office blocks in many large British cities has grown significantly, most notably in London and Manchester. The three tallest residential buildings in the UK are all located on the Isle of Dogs in East London: Landmark Pinnacle (233 m), Newfoundland Quay (220 m) and Valiant Tower (215 m). Landmark Pinnacle is the sixth tallest residential building in Europe.[2] Currently only the Cities of London and Manchester are home to skyscrapers taller than 150 metres (490 ft).[3]

As of January 2021, there are 54 habitable buildings at least 100 metres (330 ft) tall under construction in the UK – 38 in Greater London, 7 in Greater Manchester, 3 each in Birmingham and Liverpool, 2 in Woking, and 1 in Leeds.
