Main Directorate for Migration Affairs (Russia)

General Administration for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russian Federation (Russian: Главное управление по вопросам миграции Министерства внутренних дел Российской Федерации, ГУВМ МВД России), known also as GAMI (ГУВМ) is a law enforcement agency and the Russian migration police. They are responsible for the regulation of migration laws, drafting and implementing national migration policy and for the legal regulation of migration. It is also authorized to enforce laws, perform state oversight and provide government services with regard to migration.

The directorate is part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The directorate's jurisdiction covers the entirety of territorial Russia.

As with its predecessor, the Federal Migration Service, the directorate is responsible for implementing the state policy on migration and also performing law enforcement functions, functions for control, supervision and provision of public services in the field of migration. The directorate is responsible for the issuing of Russian international passports, resident registration and immigration control in Russia, and is charged with the investigation and enforcement of over 500 federal statutes within the Russian Federation. The directorate is led by a police colonel who is appointed by the Minister for Internal Affairs. The current head of the directorate is Valentina Kazakova.[1]

The directorate was established on April 5, 2016, after the Federal Migration Service was dissolved and its functions and authority transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
