Maria Brink

Maria Diane Brink (born December 18, 1977) is an American singer and songwriter, best known as the frontwoman of American heavy metal band In This Moment. The band has gone on to release seven studio albums and receive four nominations, two from Alternative Press Music Awards, one from Grammy Awards, and one from Loudwire Music Awards.

Brink has been awarded "Rock Goddess of the Year" in the third (2013) and fifth (2015) Annual Loudwire Music Awards, "Hottest Chick in Metal" in 2010, one of eleven women in heavy metal who matter by Yell! Magazine in 2012, and was recognized by Revolver Magazine as one of the "25 Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock & Metal".


Early life

Brink was born on December 18, 1977,[1][2] in the state of New York, and her father left the family when she was young.[2][3] Brink's mom introduced her to bands/artists such as Black Sabbath, Patti Smith, and Rolling Stones.[3] Brink became interested in performing at the age of 5.[3]

The first band Brink was ever in was an Albany, New York-based band called Pulse, before moving to California.[4] In 2002, when she was 25, she moved to Los Angeles to find a band to work with.[2][3] Before finding a band, she worked in stores, and sang in coffee shops and bars.[2] In 2004, she met now-band member Chris Howorth at an audition.[2][3] At first, Howorth rejected Brink for being a woman.[2][3] Two weeks latter, Howorth apoligized and hired Brink as the singer.[2][3] They formed the band Dying Star with drummer Jeff Fabb.[2][3] They were later joined by guitarist Blake Bunzel and bassist Josh Newell.[3] Soon after, the band changed their name to In This Moment.[2] The band went on to release seven studio albums. Their debut, Beautiful Tragedy, was released in 2007.[5] Their follow up, titled The Dream was released the following year debuting at number 73 on the Billboard 200.[5][6] The band's third album, A Star-Crossed Wasteland was released in 2010, and their fourth album titled Blood was released in August 2012 and debuted at number 15.[5][6] Their fifth album titled Black Widow was released in November 2014 and debuted at number 8, their highest position in the charts to date.[5][6] Ritual, their sixth, was released in 2017 and debuted at number 23.[5][6] Their seventh studio album, Mother was released in 2020.[5] They have received two nominations of Alternative Press Music Awards, including two for Best Hard Rock Artist and one for Best Live Band.[7][8] They have also received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.[9] Brink has been awarded "Rock Goddess of the Year" in the third (2013) and fifth (2015) Annual Loudwire Music Awards,[10][11] "Hottest Chick in Metal" in 2010,[12] one of eleven women in heavy metal who matter by Yell! Personal life

When she was 15, she got pregnant and had her son Davion.[2][3] She had to support herself and her son; she also helped her mother to overcome her drug addiction.[2][3] Brink is a vegetarian and active with the PETA campaign.[15] She is also an aspiring artist/painter going by the alias of 'Maria Brink's Wonderland'.[16] Brink was in a relationship with DevilDriver bassist, Jonathan Miller.[3][17]
