Melodi Grand Prix 2021

Melodi Grand Prix 2021 is the 59th edition of the Norwegian music competition Melodi Grand Prix (MGP). The contest serves as the country's preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The competition is organized by NRK and will be held between 16 January 2021 and 20 February 2021. A total of 26 songs will participate – the highest number in the history of the competition.[2]

The competition consists of five semi-finals, a "wild card" show, and the final on Saturday 20 February 2021.[3] A total of twelve songs are to participate in the final. Of these, six songs are pre-qualified, while the rest have to qualify through the five semi-finals and the wild card show. All shows will be broadcast live from the H3 Arena in Fornebu, just outside Oslo.[2][3]

The results and the winner will be decided entirely by the viewers. The winner of the competition will represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.[3]

Format

Presenters

The competition will be hosted by the same three presenters as the previous edition: Kåre Magnus Bergh will host for the seventh time, whereas Ronny Brede Aase and Ingrid Gjessing Linhave will host the show for the second time.[4]

Competing entries

Song submissions were open from 15 May 2020 to 16 August 2020.[5] The competing entries in each semi-final were revealed five days before their respective semi-final's scheduled airdate.[4] The six pre-qualified acts were revealed on 11 January 2021, along with the competing entries in the first semi-final.[6]
