Origin of the name
Oregon's Matterhorns gained their name from Stephen Harris in his book Fire Mountains of the West.[5] The name was inspired, by similarities to the real Matterhorn, between Switzerland and Italy.
These are distinguished from the Oregon Alps, in the Wallowa Mountains.[6] Also, this name should not be confused with another peak in Oregon's Wallowa Mountains, that being the Matterhorn.[7]
